Shirley Al - Local Clay Artist on the Elora-Fergus Studio Tour....pay her a visit this week at the Studio Elora

THE STUDIO ELORA

With a BFA from the University of Waterloo and an MA in Design from Stanford University, Shirley brings years of technique and an impeccable eye to her clay sculptures. Uniquely hers, they reflect a play on the human form with elements of imbedded nature and organic movement. The result is whimsical yet richly enticing.  Works can be seen at The Studio Elora and the Barber Gallery, Guelph.

Currently, Shirley is working on a “Study in Collaboration” with studio partner Jo Lomas. Finished pieces will be the creative combination from a left- and right-handed approach to large-format painting and clay works.

Beryl Dawson, Painter, Elora-Fergus Studio Tour Opens Soon!

The Majestic Grand by Beryl Dawson

Beryl Dawson - Featured Artist- Wellington Artists Gallery and Art Centre - Sept 4 to Oct 4, 2010
As a member of the Elora Fergus Studio Tour,  Beryl is the featured artist at Wellington  Artists' Gallery and Art Centre,  during the month leading up to the tour. She is a self taught painter of realism. Working with oils, watercolour or mixed media she endeavours to make every piece of work, through exacting detail,  a tapestry of lifelike, natural colour and form. She paints on many different surfaces, including steel gold pans from the Yukon, pieces of shale, glass and textile.  Her current project is her Canadiana series depicting scenes from coast to coast. Represented in her portfolio are endangered historic buildings, flora and fauna and landmark landscapes of different regions of the country. Regardless of the subject,  the results are dramatic, vibrant and correct in detail often making viewers ask if it is a painting or a photo.

Wellington Artists' Gallery and Art Centre members play a major part in the Elora Fergus Studio Tour
The Elora Fergus Studio Tour runs for 2 week-ends…Sept 25 and 26 and Oct 2 and 3.  There are 36 artists on the tour  this year,  8 of whom, (approximately one-quarter of the Membership) are also members of Wellington Artists’ Gallery and Art Centre.   Those members  are  Anne Luxton, textile artist;  Beryl  Dawson, painter; Dorothy Collin, potter; Jacqueline Tate, potter; Jerre Davidson, glass artist; Maggie Vanderweit, textile artist; Melanie Morel weaver and Supria Karmakar, encaustic artist.  When you visit these Studios you are also supporting Wellington Artists' Gallery and Art Centre members, which is greatly appreciated.  For information about these artists and their studios visit  www.wellingtonartistsgallery.ca  andwww.elorafergusstudiotour.ca .

Pam Starratt - New Potter on Elora-Fergus Studio Tour

Pam Starratt - Potter
As a young mother of three beautiful girls, Pam managed to keep herself throwing pots one way or another wherever she could find a corner. So when she joined The Studio Elora two years ago, her dreams to “stay in the clay” were realized. With lovely, organic glazes on functional pieces, and a generous amount on Pam, she may seem the messy potter but there is nothing messy about her wonderful bowls and cups. Pam is currently working on a large commission of goblets for a client’s wedding party.

Jerre Davidson of Alma, Ontario, Canada has been working in Kiln-formed glass for 10 years and in 2010 she will have been on the Elora-Fergus Studio tour for four years.

Here is what Jerre says about her work, " I use the contradictory properties of glass to create my kiln-formed glass landscapes.  Some of my work is assembled face up and fired multiple times whereas others are fired face down allowing for a more impressionistic image. With this work I endeavour to share my sense of place in the natural environment."
